Chinook salmon
has been good and now that the offshore area
124 is open for 2 per day,
it increases areas where we can catch consistently on a daily basis.
The timing is perfect as Mara had been hot for almost 2 weeks but has slowed down a bit.
Always make sure to check your regulations.
Chinook salmon has been consistent outside Mara rock and good on some days around Sail, Austin, Cree though both areas have slowed a bit in the past few days.
Florencia Bay and around Great Bear. Long Beach has also been good the past few days. Wya and outside Fraser Rock have been holding fish as well.
We have done a little live squid fishing that past few days and expect we will have a few more good days in the next couple weeks with the amount of squid around.
Anchovies, white hutchies and 3′ spoons have been our most commonly used ways to catch Chinook.
Coho Salmon
Halibut fishing
has been pretty consistent though we are starting to travel
10-12 miles out now in a few different spots which is normal this time of year.
There have been a few halibut caught in Florencia Bay which means there should be some right outside if you are looking for an area to go that isn’t far away.
Generally we travel a bit just to have the more guaranteed catch.
Octopus have been messing with our gear in a few spots so look out for them.
Most days have been decent with 3-5 halibut per day along with some Chinook salmon. Always have a few different baits down as generally one tends to be hotter on any given day.
